Jo Brown
I live on the South Coast of England, five minutes from the sea, and just a quick train journey away from London.
My art training- from constant scribbler as a child, many lovely art teachers, to Foundation (Loughborough); Bachelor of Arts, Fashion and Textiles, (Nottingham Trent); Master of Arts, Fashion and Textiles, (Manchester). My textile leanings were firmly in the novelty/conversation print area, and gradually I realised I should be doing illustration. I have been working as an illustrator for more than 15 years. My imagery is happy, jolly, fun, humorous, colourful, and sometimes very busy! I paint with real paint! I like the feel of paint, the unexpected mixes that work out really well, the unevenness, the imperfections that make it lively. I work mainly in gouache, on flexible smooth card, though images can be delivered digitally on request.
I love working with colour, pattern and texture. I like drawing happy faces, (animals or people ) and adding lots of interest to the backgrounds - a good picture book is read over and over, it helps to have lots to discover on each visit.
I work on a variety of projects- I do a lot of children's book work, but also advertising, ceramics, games, greetings cards, logos, packaging, posters, stationery, toys, and textiles- and I'm happy to tackle anything else.
I can produce mood boards, story boards, ranges of patterns, patterns in repeat- just ask.
I have two gallery pages here, please look at both
bee young, bright , fun
wulfie slightly older/quirkier more sophisticated colour palette.
